CASMI Named as Top 100 Finalist for Chicago Innovation Awards

The Center for Advancing Safety of Machine Intelligence at Northwestern University has been selected as one of the Top 100 Finalists for the 21st Annual Chicago Innovation Awards. The awards celebrate new innovations in the Chicago area across all organization sizes, sectors, and industries.

“We are thrilled to be selected as a finalist of the Chicago Innovation Awards this year,” said CASMI director Kristian Hammond. “It is an appreciated acknowledgement of CASMI’s innovative model of research linking a network of researchers from Northwestern and Chicago to others across the country and around the globe. It is also recognition of the importance of investigating issues of safety in AI and machine intelligence so that the technologies we build bring us greater benefit and less harm.”

Over 400 business and civic leaders will come together at the awards ceremony at Morgan Manufacturing on November 16th to celebrate this year’s winners. Co-founder of the awards, Tom Kuczmarski noted the city’s continuous thread of pushing boundaries in business and technology. “Chicago continues to rise as a global hub of innovation due to the breadth of organizations in our region that introduce a stream of new products and services into the market each year.” Out of the Top 100 Finalists, the judges will select 20 winners who will be invited to ring the Nasdaq Bell in New York City and have separate meetings with the Mayor, Governor, and Cook County President.
